I've Been Tagged
We interrupt this study of Jesus comparisons to fulfill the requirements and responsibilities of being tagged. 8 random things about me:
1. I met a relative of mine at a family reunion in Alabama, who was 102 years old (this was in 2000) and who's father fought in the Civil War...on the side of the south for those who wanted to know. As you can imagine, her father was older when she was born, and he died when she was a child. But meeting her gave me a direct link to a civil war vet.
2. My father used to sing in a barbershop quartet in Arkansas. Elvis Presley came to town and his opening act had to cancel at the last minute. My dad's quartet was one of the groups tagged to be a possible replacement opening act, but it didn't happen. They were that (thumb and pointer held closely together) close.
3. I have eaten frog legs...and many other crazy foods.
4. When I was 16, I was in a huge Raft Race on the James River in Virginia. In the middle of the race, the rope holding the barrels and boards together loosened when wet, and our raft fell apart. We all grabbed a barrel ($20 deposit per) and started swimming. Of the 6 of us on the raft, only 2 finished. I was picked up in the middle of the channel by the coast guard so I was not one that got to finish. I was pissed, because I could see the finish line.
5. I have had a gun pointed at my head from 3 feet away, by a guy I went to high school with. 2 years later he went to prison for killing another classmate's father. He was arguing with the driver of the car I was in, but they were arguing thru the passenger window and I was the passenger.
6. I went to a prominently Black high school, so I know what it is like to be a minority...trust me, it is not the best experience.
7. I was a dancer (along with my date) in the audience of a Rock and Roll show being filmed in Utah. It was pretty cool seeing a bunch of 60s and 70s Rock n Roll legends on stage. Each song would take multiple takes and they always told the audience how to react...very interesting and fun.
8. I love peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

Hmmmmm. Methinks someone here loves Elvis. Am I right?
Love this list.
That's for another list, another day.
Wow, a link to the civil war. I love history so this is soo fascinating to me. I also love barbershop quartets. Or anything with lots of harmony in it.
Wow, I have never had a gun pointed at me (on purpose, anyway). That is so scary. *shiver*
I'm eating a PB&J right now. I would have used bananas, but they make the roof of my mouth feel funny, so I don't eat them very often.
I love the list, BR!
BTW, I also love PB & Banana sandwiches. But do you grill yours? I don't. Oh, and I put honey on mine. Sweetens me up.
LB, SML,
Well, Elvis used to put bananas on PB&J sandwiches and would grill them.
The only way I ever ate them (as taught as a pre-teen, was white bread, peanut butter and bananas.
No Jelly and no grilling. Not that this combo wouldn't be good, I just have never tried it.
I didn't hear that Elvis at a variation of this sandwich until I was an adult.
I can also be seen spreading PB directly on the banana and eating it without bread. My kids think I'm nuts.
Awesome list.
I love peanut butter and banana sandwiches not grilled no jelly.
The civil war link must be an amazing feeling. I might be able to do six degrees of separation. maybe?
My next door neighbor came over the other day...and in conversation it came out that her mother came to the US via Ellis Island before World War I. My neighbor is probably in her late fifties or early sixties.
It's strange and awesome to talk about stuff in history with people so close to it.
Now we know... and "knowing is half the battle"
Visit my blog, sweets. You've been tagged AGAIN! (hey when I can't think of anything to write about, I BLESS these things!)
mwah
Elvis. Pelvis. Is there anything more perfect?
PB&Banana? When I order a shake, I'll often get caramel and banana, but never thought of doing the PB route. I may have to reconsider.
I tried frog legs just once. Maybe it was how they were cooked, but they seemed awfully greasy to me (emphasis on awfully).
Great list :)
Peanut butter and banana sandwiches? Here's how Elvis really liked them: put peanut butter on bread and grill; saute the bananas in butter until golden, then put them on the pb sandwich. Jelly need not apply. MMMMM GOOOD!
:0)
#6 was the same for me. my middle school was like that also.
facing intolerance doesn't have to be a completely bad experience though, since it can show us how to rise above and be better (urg, that sounds like something you'd hear in sunday school)
